One downvote shouldn't hide comments

What you're asking for wouldn't amount to much. Any change to the default wouldn't affect any of the existing 550K users. It would only affect new users. Even for those users, they could just change it back to -1 through their settings.

Would it not be possible to roll out the change to all users who have their threshold set to 0?

What about us who doesn't want to change our threshold? I know we can just change it back but the same argument could be used in the reverse.

It would be, however some of those users may explicitly want the setting to be 0. I can't even imagine the storm of complaints such a change might cause.

If someone knows enough about Danbooru's settings to understand what their comment threshold level changing means, then they also know that it would take five seconds to change theirs back. The primary purpose of this would be to benefit guests and users who are inexperienced with Danbooru.

There are half a million users on this site ?

Well it wouldn't affect me since my threshold is at -2, so I'll let others who would be affected chime in on how they feel about that.

Check out the Users listing.

My threshold is at 0.
And I agree that it will be a better measure to filter really bad posts then. If you look at the comment abuse topic then all comments have at least a score of -2. Would be easier to moderate, I think.

I'll prolly not go through every 20 user page until I get to the first; yet I see the first 9 pages are those who joined on the 19th which approximates nearly 170 new users a day.

Sadly, I am not convinced of the utter sincerity of all those persons.

Anyone with a blog or forum knows the vast majority of new registrants are not there to smell the flowers.

Ah... I meant to check the user links. Those numbers at the end are a user's ID and are given in the order which they joined Danbooru. Albert was the first with user #1, I'm user #23799, and you're user #72775. The latest user as of checking right now has an ID of 548877.
