Bikini top/bottom vs bikini tagging

Posted under General

Hello.
In the last few days, I tried a bit to populate the frilled bikini top tag and also the frilled bikini bottom tag. In exchange, I've removed the frilled bikini tag.
The description in the wikis seems rather clear (well, I changed it a bit) and describe pretty well how I think bikini posts should be tagged.
Background are posts like post #2836936 where you an only see the bikini top and it seems backwards to me to tag this with frilled bikini since you can only see the top and "bikini bikini_top" on one posts should not exist. Also because bikini top doesn't imply bikini.

The same also goes for other patterns (stripes, polka dot, plaid, checkered) and of course colors (red, blue, yellow etc.).

I still kept low with populating these tags since the concensus was that posts still get tagged with frilled bikini despite only the top being visible (post #2841373) and if the oncensus is for nuking the top/bottom tags, then it would at least be less tags to be aware of.

In my opinion, you should tag bikini top only when you can clearly see there is no bikini bottom (for instance the character is bottomless, wearing a bikini skirt or bikini shorts, etc.), and vice versa for bikini bottom. If you can only see the character's upper body, then the default assumption is usually that they're wearing the bikini with a bottom.

I don't really think so. There are multiple chars that are still wearing a skirt or another garment (see post #2834318).
So I would not automatically assume that the character wears a bikini bottom. It also goes against tag what you see.

But your opinion has the advantage that it drastically reduces tag noise. So I'm not aversed against it if others share the same opinion.

For myself, it kind of depends... meta-knowledge is useful on determining whether it should be a full bikini or not, e.g. a character and their known outfits. When that's not available, I check the environment of the picture for clues on what it could, e.g. certain locations or surroundings are more likely to have one or the other. If that still doesn't come up with anything, e.g. a simple background, I default to full.
