Touhou Wiki is already calling her "Eternity," claiming that Etarnity (from in-game) and Etanity (from omake.txt) are both cases of ZUN using "inconsistent romaji"

Is it safe to use Touhou Wiki as base though? I think it's better option to follow what ZUN wrote for her name.

I do believe that it is a rather obvious spelling mistake on ZUN's side.
He wrote it "wrong" in two different ways in the way a Japanese person would pronounce the "tern" in Eternity.
All other fairies introduced so far (except Chirno!? Chill no?) just have English words for names. What if ZUN wrote "Clownpeice". Would we have kept that?

Is there a precedent for Danbooru fixing creators' mistakes regarding romanization?

エタニティ is the standard katakana spelling of the English word "eternity". This is an obvious case of Engrish on Zun's part.

I'm sure people have already told Zun about the error. Be interesting to see if he fixes her name. Besides, "Eternity Larva" actually makes sense.

I think we should wait for the full version of the game before we decide on anything. There's always the chance that "Etarnity" or "Etanity" turns out to be the final name, even if it makes no sense to a native English speaker.

I think it's silly to wait for the full game, because whether ZUN updates it or not, it's still Engrish nonsense with a very obvious intended meaning.
Though I'd laugh if the final game comes out and she's now called "Etarnety" or something.

+1 for the mass update.

Because leaving it as is would be just as much a "decision" as changing it, so I don't see value in waiting for the full release.
Someone just was the first to add the character tag and decided for all of us.

It's probably not a big deal, ultimately, but my stance is that it's overstepping our duties as taggers to "correct" a presently-official romanization based on fanon speculation. I can see the value of an alias, given that both spellings have some use at this point, but there's always the possibility that we'll have to reverse it in three months.

Considering he wrote it differently in the omake.txt imo it's better to update/alias it to something that makes sense, at least until the full game confirms whether one of these two spellings was intentional, whether they were both mistakes, or even leaves them both as is.

Maybe an alias instead? "Etarnity" is how she's spelled in-game and on various sites, people might search for that.

Given that the wiki has been smart enough to fix her name, I don't think that's much of a worry.

Also, what Flandre5carlet said. Hell, what's the argument for keeping Etarnity over Etanity? Why not change it to Etanity? After all, ZUN wrote it that way too.
ZUN made a mistake. He is not an authority on English. We, as actual English speakers, are. And if down the line ZUN does decree "no it's not a mistake I totally intended it to be Etarnity for real guys", we can always change it back then.

My understanding is that aliases put significantly more strain on the server than mass updates. If we're going to make them, they should be for things that are set in stone, not fanon theories that are completely up in the air.

Remember, what "makes sense" to the translators isn't always what the creator picks. Otherwise, I might be sharing a discussion with one Flandoll5carlet right now.
