Well we don't use personification on Axis Powers Hetalia posts, so if they are only appearing as humans in the original game then there is precedent to not tag them personification.

personification is still being tagged on a lot of kantai collection images where no ship accessories are visible. I'm in favor of just getting rid of the tag on all kantai collection images since it's completely taken over the tag and there are precedents such as axis powers hetalia as jjj14 pointed out and even touhou which has a lot of characters that are technically personifications but never get tagged as such.
if this ever reached a green-light, i'll also add unlinking existing character wikis to the personification tag, or just simplify the wikis without mentioning 'personification' to avoid confusion.

Frankly at this point, I agree. It's looking like it's going to be too difficult to consistently apply personification as I proposed early in the thread, and even if it wasn't, I'm feeling it's overwhelming the tag too much. It would be much more helpful to only apply it for KanColle images in particularly specific circumstances like ghostrigger outlined.
I ruffled myself up a bit and was going to do it until I saw the page count on kantai_collection personification and nearly vomited. I dunno if there are tools outside "vanilla Danbooru" to do it, but I'm not sure I could survive my usual method of checking all images not obvious from thumbnail.

Mods and admins have the ability to mass-edit searches. They could mass-edit "kantai_collection personification" -> "kantai_collection" to remove the personification tag from all kantai_collection posts automatically without needing to go through tens of thousands of posts.
The only issue is that this would also remove the tag from the posts that we want it on. But since these seem relatively rare it would be easier to just add these back manually after the mass-edit removes them.

i too agree. have a handful in mind and maybe other users can add more too later. it's easier to start with a clean plate with this magnitude and hopefully we can expect some action soon before this reach 50,000 and beyond.

I find it easier to further divide it into subcategories, such as looking up based on most popular character, ratings; this cuts down on the amount in each category and is either to handle psychologically.

I think for now, these three will be enough.
Taking out questionable and explicit tags will leave a large amount of safe tags, and even though there is overlap with character images, will lessen the work load. That way we can have multiple users clearing out sections at a time.

Post the images personification will still apply to. jxh can just mass edit kantai_collection personification into kantai_collection and nuke it in one swoop. Images that need to have personification added back on have already been posted here and thus would be simple to find.
I fail to see any advantage in using a tag script to remove a tag from 21966 post over finding the 30-40 outliers and compiling a list. One will take minutes, one will take days and thousands of edit calls made one by one and they both require roughly the same amount of visual information.
I guess I misunderstood; I thought the tag was going to apply to images involving the girls in their "battle dress" (i.e. wearing their stacks and/or turrets), which would comprise a non-trivial number of the existing posts and still require visually scanning 1,099 pages of posts. If by "humanoid turrets" you mean the two Rensouhous, it can just be purged and implicated to their tags.

Okay, I'll remember that. Though, considering that nothing has been done about the issue in question for almost 2 months, something tells me that this thread would have been bumped sooner or later, regardless.
I don't really have an opinion on which images now qualify for the tag, but definitely agree we do not need to put it on every Kancolle image.
I've nuked personification from kantai_collection. (Or rather just queued it up, should finish in a bit).
I don't know if anyone compiled a list already but it seems as easy to do that after as to do it before, so once it's done processing, have at.
