It's just... all that build up between Ash and Serena (and I'm a Misty/Ash fan myself) to just have it deflate like that for no real reason. And now he gets a new female companion who they'll probably poke at romantically here and there but not really get anywhere with.

Not yet, but it's really only a matter of time before the inevitable canning happens and they prove that the Ash/Serena teasing was nothing more than viewer baiting. I always doubted they had the guts to follow through with all their build up, and I'm not one bit happy that it seems I'll be proven right.

That aside, I feel bad for Serena. Sure she could do better but she loved him and I guess she's to be thrown aside now.
It's a kid's show through and through and while we ALL KNOW the Anime is nothing more than a glorified Nintendo Commericial. Older fans still get suckered into wishing they had the balls to do something more with it.
And now Sun and Moon looks like they made Ash younger and Dumber and looks like they got a new animation team to boot. Feels like another series reboot(like how Black and white was supposed to be) except this reboot is aiming for a younger audience generation.

The writers are god damn sadist. They feed on shatter hopes and the tears of those that dare to fall for their tricks. I'll bet that all their writers are George R.R Martian tier bastards that finds joy in scuttling all that they built up in the show. The only thing stopping them from chopping off wieners is because this is pokemon and pokemons don't have wieners.
