"Katawa Shoujo is a bishoujo-style visual novel set in the fictional Yamaku High School for disabled children, located somewhere in modern Japan. Hisao Nakai, a normal boy living a normal life, has his life turned upside down when a congenital heart defect forces him to move to a new school after a long hospitalization. Despite his difficulties, Hisao is able to find friends—and perhaps love, if he plays his cards right." [1]

The game was released on January 4, 2012.

The story behind the game's development is quite unusual. The original idea for the game stems from a one page sketch by the artist Raita. A translated version of the page was posted on 4chan on January 4, 2007. The post received a huge response and eventually a group of people emerged that was highly dedicated to realizing the creation of the game. These people formed Four Leaf Studios and continued to work on it.
