I'm starting to doubt that it's been really 17 years since the last game. A lot of returning characters look no different. Ivy and Tira I could suppose use SE to stay young, but Hilde? What's up with her?

I know. Siegfried almost looks a few inches smaller in-game compared to the illustration where he looks like he should be in Darksiders or WH40K. I'm looking between the SCV and SCIV art and I don't see much change in Hilde at all (and that's not including the armor).
I suppose the idea of female age falls on deaf ears, especially when Japanese developers try to give games the "anime look," which is exactly what Project Soul said they'd do.
Glad to see Hilde return, I really enjoyed her female knight concept and mix of short and long range. I notice she traded the wolf-themed suit of armour for a griffin themed one, too. Most likely because Zwei stole the whole wolf theme thing from her.

The Soul Calibur series takes place in the late 1500s to early 1600s. People didn't live anywhere near as long then. Somebody aging this well is unlikely.

I want to say that she does look slightly older than she does in her SCIV design, but other than a slightly more serious expression and a shorter haircut, I can't really put my finger on why, exactly. Her facial features do seem practically identical.
All but her face is covered. Women in their 30s are not grey haired and wrinkled. I have met plenty of older women that could be mistaken for a woman in her mid to late 20s (even a young boy.) This would especially be the case for people who are physically active as they would not be packing on pounds and generally staying in shape.

Its a moot point to argue since its a drawn character, and making her look aged would not appeal to the demographic. But the fact is that over the course of every 8 years of your life you have a completely different body. Over that course of time, every cell in your body has died and been replaced with a new one through mitosis. No matter how well you age, unless you are fucking Steve Martin, you face looks different after 17 years.
