I don't know what to make of this match. Marisa was never known to be heroic, more just a freelance badass. Still, I wasn't quite expecting her to be a heel.
But, this panel, and the last one, signify her defeat easily. It'll come down to her apologizing to Reimu, and then they finish it off fairly, with Marisa losing. Calling it now.

Oh yeah? I think this fits very much in line to what Marisa would do. She does what she needs to gain advantage or else her power would pale with her rival. I think a lot of the actual planning being played out is mostly Patchy and Alice so for me it feels it's Marisa channeling out their sideline buddies' tactics all the while enjoying it.

She's working with Mima again and if you remember Mima is after Reimu in this series. So heel Marisa should've been expected for a while now.

This to
Also Yukari sweatdrop? Odd I thought she would like this sort of thing but I guess not.
Okay, so at some point, Marisa stepped into the ring. This is good since Remilia seems to have disappeared. Its important that at least one person is in the ring.
I think Reimu's technically in the ring, too. I don't think it has a vertical limit. But yeah, it seems like only one member of Scarlet 75% can exist at a time for some reason.

...heeeeeeeeey. You know who we would expect to act like this? And is known to have done something to Marisa that we didn't get to see? And she has a grudge against the person Marisa is now gleefully tormenting? And we haven't seen her in a while? And she's an evil spirit with green hair?

Remilia's been clobbered twice with the iron maiden and that...whatever the stuff poured on it that burns her is, I forget. She might not have recovered yet.
I also like how people are all "BWAAAAH THEY'RE CHEATING" when Remilia practically told them to the second she stepped in the ring.
We that is debatable.
The fact everything was removed from ringside (when patchy/alice accepted) and has slowly been brought back does question whether Remilia specifically said "go ahead and cheat" vs trying to remove the ring side shenanigans due to patchy and alice being official participants.
Kilgamayan said: It's really bizarre how both members of Red 75% are in the tournament for unscrupulous reasons and yet both of their opponents have been heels.
I don't see how Reimu's reason is unscrupulous. She's poor and wants to be able to afford food.

The problem isn't what she's doing, but where she is. The vampire maiden got hit by the iron maiden, and neither maiden has been seen or heard from since.

They might have impure reasons (Pride and money), but remain among the cleaner fighters in the match.
I wonder if there's more to tewi's tactic than what we've seen.

I think all pretense of fairness went flying out of the window the moment that this tournament didn't use some sort of limiter on vampires/oni/GODS to even the playing field for the kappa/human/minor deity participants.
Of course, this is all probably lost on the Gensokyo audience.
I'm just waiting for a Gladiator-esque moment where one of them goes "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED? IS THIS NOT WHY YOU ARE HERE?!?" during a horrendously one-sided match.

Eh. That's true in practice, but the fact of the matter is also that both of them are ridiculously, retardedly powerful. Maybe not directly Oni-level in terms of physical power, but taking into account natural genius, raw power, adaptability, and so forth, they are easily amongst the most powerful characters in the series, and they're on the same team.
Let's be honest: It's a lot easier to be a "fair" fighter when fighting fair means you slaughter your competition without the slightest difficulty. As others have pointed out, Marisa had to undergo an extremely physically dangerous procedure -and- has to use huge numbers of tools with significant heavy off-ring backup merely to vaguely match the kind of firepower Reimu just h4xed up right before the match. Nitori also required immense planning, prep time, training, and again double chaining off-ring healers every short interval to avoid getting crushed like a bug.
Have you forgotten already? Reimu flat out stated, straight off, that she expected to crush the both of them like insects. And to be honest, in a "fair" fight that would be pretty true. Marisa, Nitori, Patchouli and Alice are pulling out every last thing they can muster, and we *still* haven't seen much major damage happen to either of their competitor,s nor have we seen the INEVITABLE turnaround that we all know is coming. It's awfully, awfully early to whine about "cheap" here tbh.
possibilities: - Mima is really controlling Marisa, which later results in a disqualification for Marisa's team (5 vs 2) if she's found out - Marisa's team starts having problems when Patchy and Alice's stamina start to wear out, so they'll have to fight without magic power (maybe surpassing even Byakuren's time limit?) - Reimu will hax her way to victoly, since she knows how to use skills within the barrier... or.. - Marisa's team realizes Reimu's ability and somehow overcome it - the spanish donkey is still to be used, wonder if Remi will use it against Patchy instead? (this could be a spanner in the works for Kirisame Familiar)

Didn't Yuka do that already?

There always was some hideously tedious moral lesson to be found in the kind of works the author is parodying.
Broken Aesops are so lame. For once I'd like to see this end without any bullshit lessons.

What about the HJ first Immortals match where the latter started pulling dirty tricks and asspulls. And there's ways to make an underdog winning interesting (Kiku's work)
Wait wait, I just thought of something, do you suppose Mima is possessing Marisa right now? She was talking rather similarly to her just then. Probably not but it would be an interesting twist.
Edit: Now reading the new comments, I see I'm not the only one that thought of that, that means its probability for actually happening just went way up.

It helps that I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop with regard to Mima's plan. The Mini-Hakkero trick was a bizarrely low payoff for all the buildup, unless there was something about it we hadn't been told.
