Hm... Haast's Eagle and the Moa are extinct, but I still don't want to use the prehistoric animal tag since they both died out relatively recently (by around the early 15th century). What do you think?

That's not how the tag works...'prehistoric animals' means 'animals that exists before history was recorded', or tag-wise 'animals of past geological age', means they only have fossils as proof of their existance. 'Living fossils' means 'animals that changed so little in the past few thousands of years so their anatomy is practically the same with their fossilized counterpart' so by that definition they're modern animals with primitive structure.
