No, that's a Colt Commando. It's a type of Assault rifle/carbine based off the M16. Short barrel, short body overall. It's the precursor to the M4, and was used until a new M4A1 Close Quarters Battle Rifle was created with similar stats. Now, however, they have more cobbled versions of them using various parts but...still, quite useful.

Its a CAR-15, the beta footage labeled it as such and the model is the exact same as in the beta, so that is what they intended it to be.

Might be the intention, but really, it's neither a CAR-15 or a Colt Commando. The weapon in this picture doesn't have a real-life equivalent; the magazines are 7.62mm sized and the top rail, which is modeled after maybe one of the older SIGs, isn't anything Colt was coming out with at the time (I'm not that sure about the Call of Duty games, but operating under the assumption that this one is around Vietnam) and Colts had to have the optics mounted to the carrying handle. Maybe a weapon like this shows up in the game itself; but I could have a game that has a potato labeled as a toaster, that label doesn't make it a toaster, it's still a potato, and useless for toasting in any sense of the word. Maybe there should be a tag for 'generic carbine' or some such.
And you guys arguing about 'AR-15', 'no, Colt Commando', 'no, CAR-15', I look forward to the day that you put down your video games and join the professional shooters in realization that all three are various levels of generic names for the same weapon; or do some research before you get into an argument over nothing.
Or realize that all your hours with the video games do not qualify you to enter said argument.
For those interested, the modern equivalent (in usage, not the weapon itself) is the Mk18, one of my favorites.
