Well, depending on what exactly could be done with magic, I'm sure Perrine would prefer it to be a certain Fuso witch with long, straight hair... Mio Sakamoto. Of course, if they knew who had the Imperium Gaphices in the 1940's, then they could borrow a page from Haruna Saotome in the Gambler Club circle's Negima doujinshis and equip the necessary 'acessories' to get the job done properly...)

More and more Strike Witches is reminding me of Touhou, it's certainly extremely popular in Japan. I can only hope that with the right games and works it will become just as big. Strike Witches certainly has a really nice universe.

I think the Japanese text says that she's the granddaughter of Perrine. There are actually a whole bunch of straight Witches with boyfriends and Witches who've married men. Even Witches with sons and brothers. That said I still prefer the idea of Mio and Perrine getting hitched.

Is there even any real comparison? Is Touhou even an anime? I thought it was just a side-scrolling shooter. It boggles my mind, if so, that it is so popular if that's all it is...
On straight witches; One of those is a ground-attack witch in the 'Tiger in the Desert' comic who fell for a Hauptmann in a Panzer Division when the two of them were fighting together against the Neuroi in the Battle of Karlsland.
The Rafale-A. Since it looks like it had already had its first flight in 1991. Actually, a friend wanted me to draw this, so let's call this an experimental flight in combat conditions. This is Lieutenant Rosalie G. Clostermann (age 17), member of a flight squadron aboard the Gallian Navy's aircraft carrier "Foch", which also performs test flights of prototype aircraft. She's a descendent of Perinne Clostermann of the Free Gallian Air Force. However, she has a strikingly gentle personality. In recognition of her great skill and sensibility, she was selected to become a test pilot for a prototype aircraft and deployed to the Arabian peninsula.

Only in so far that's a really popular universe cramped with huge numbers of well loved and well developed female characters to that extant that whether canonical or not girlxgirl pairings are the big thing. It's a meme in the Touhou fanbase that with so much magic and like maybe 2 men in a cast of dozens of women Gensokyo (the setting) must be populated by lesbians who breed with each other in spite of background data explaining how many characters have male fathers.
Touhou is a long running series of bullet hell shooters and ranged fighting games. They're actually just doujin games but their quality, popularity and mythos is so good that in Japan at least they're as big if not bigger than things like Gundam and Naruto. Strike Witches is similar though not nearly as popular in this regard but Touhou was made in like 1996 and Strike Witches like 2008 not including smaller works in 2006. So yeah the franchises are surprisingly big.
They're not as popular with the rest of world though then again anime is not as big outside Japan as it is inside (contrary to popular belief) not to mention the vast majority of such fans are all girls who like solar powered sparkly vampires :p
