DFSMistel is a German-developed twin bomber. As its popular name, "mistletoe," suggests, this was a weapon whereby a piloted small fighter aircraft was connected to a larger craft such as a specially-adapted bomber, and flown to the targeted area, where an unmanned craft was detached and aimed at the target. The large unmanned crafts such as the remodeled Ju 88 were equipped with 1.8t (3,960lb) of warheads, and also carried shaped charges, which were able to inflict enormous damage on the target. However, the war ended without them achieving satisfying military gains, at a time when a guarantee of air superiority was beyond control.
