Looks awfully heavy for an assault rifle. Sure, it'd have low recoil because of that, but it'd be a pain to lug around if somebody really tried to turn this into a production model

It might be lighter than it looks. The reason why is because it looks like a mix between the XM8 and Scar. Both aren't heavy. The reason it looks heavy is because it has been completely decked out.

Weight distribution is critical. Everything is cramped way too far in the front here, the action, the GL, gas system, everything. It looks so front heavy my left arm hurts just from looking at it.

Uh, actually, the XM8 was fairly heavy for its class. It was implied that was part of the reason the XM8 program was canceled instead of the XM8 being designated M8 and subsequently entering production. Every time H&K fixed something with the XM8, it got heavier, too.
If not for the weight, the US military would probably have adopted the XM8 (political problems of the time and OICW project aside).
