I was actually wondering about that through this entire series. That looks like an uncomfortable and ineffective prosthesis. Then again, I guess it's hard to find quality medical technology in the post-apocalypse.

Even post-apocalypse, you'd probably be able to find crutches, although those can wear out a person's arms. The axillary (traditional ones that go under a person's armpits) crutches can cause nerve damage is used improperly for too long. (Note: You do not use your armpits to support yourself.)
