This ending did indeed suck. To think the author would troll us like that by having the baby actually be the immortal Kaguya in infant form... which means Okuu's heart-break was for nothing (or maybe it was the author's way of explaining how the baby survived exposure to all that heat, radiation, and the G forces of Okuu and later Marisa's flying).
Personally, I think it would have been better to flash forward a few years to show us the girl, happy and healthy in the human village, running around with her favorite toy as Okuu watches from high above with a smile!
