A long time ago in a land far away, there were two small tengu children. One tengu was pure white; she loved to run and was very honest; she always said everything that came to her mind. The other tengu was pitch black; she loved to fly and told lies every time she opened her mouth. Although they were completely different in appearance and personality, they got along surprisingly well and always played and chased each other around.
By the time White's legs were strong and Black's wings became pointed, a conflict started to arise among the tengu people in the mountain where they lived. The tengu people, who up until now had lived in harmony, became separated into two groups as they had started to quarrel. This turned into an incredibly brutal battle where before long, blood was used to wash away blood. White was sent almost every day to the battlefield to hunt and almost every day she came back hurt. Seeing White in such a state, Black felt sorry for her and treated her wounds. Black also went out to join the battle, but unlike White, she did not get a single scratch. White was delighted with Black's greatness. Although they were both safe, day by day their groups became smaller. As the tengus from her group died, White cried big tears. The battle turned increasingly murkier and both groups were already thoroughly exhausted. One day, the group's chief summoned White and said, "Kill Black." This was such an unexpected command that White was utterly astonished. She asked the reason why she had to do such a thing. According to the chief, the reason the conflict had started was because Black had enticed all the chiefs into it; hence the plan was to end the conflict by inviting the opposite side to enter into discussions by offering them Black's head. White became increasingly more surprised. She had no reason to believe this story straight away. A very distressed White went directly to Black to ask her for the real story. To start with, Black looked surprised but straight away she smiled and said, "Have you only realized that now?" And then the chasing began. White's legs were strong, but they could not compete against the speed of wings. If she caught her arms, she would escape; if she cornered her, she would sidestep her; this happened again and again until finally White managed to catch Black, far away from their home land on a remote mountain. By then, both had wounds all over their bodies. White somehow managed to move her heavy body and pinned Black down firmly, she looked her in the eyes and asked her if what the chief had said had been true. Black continued to smile and remained quiet for a while but eventually looked straight back at White and nodded. There was no longer anywhere for White to escape.
That's it (lit. "punch line")......(^p^)
Author's pixiv comment to the viewers: originally this story did continue but as it seemed to be getting longer I thought I would like to put it all together somewhere else!
