Now, I know what you might be thinking. "Isn't adolf hitler off-topic on danbooru?"
Well, if you think about it logically, Japan's modern anime style can be traced back all the way to Astro Boy, which is by most considered to be the "first anime". Astro Boy was famously inspired by the western comics and cartoons like Superman and Disney's movies (a cultural influence brought by the US' influence over Japan after WW2), and by WW2 itself as well: Wikipedia even reports that:
"According to Osamu Tezuka, the main themes of much of the manga he had created, specifically Astro Boy, were that of anti-war, the preservation of nature, and discrimination, which had emanated from his childhood experiencing the devastation of World War II.[8]".
So I think we can all agree that anime would not have existed without WW2. Now, some of you might not be history buffs, but can you guess which person in particular caused WW2?

I'm sorry, but as an historian, I must disagree with you. You're not thinking far back enough. Consider the environment that allowed Hitler to come to power in the first place - those were induced as a result of WW1. The stab-in-the-back myth that pervaded that gave justification, Hitler's own experiences in the war, and even Walt Disney's experience with the war furthering his artistic skills to be able to influence anime later. All of this as a result of Franz Ferdinand being assassinated by Gavrilo Princip.
So anime happened thanks to the Serbs. You're welcome, westoids. Ignore the fallacies present in both our posts.
