80s Style Tsukasa
Hey, look, Tsukasa's getting the hang of her mo... wait... how did a SCHOOLGIRL get a MOBILE PHONE?!? How is this possible? I get the feeling that the Lucky Star girls are about to go on another adventure...
This is the third pic in my 80's style series- Hiiragi Tsukasa, from "Lucky Star". The first two were Izumi Konata:

And Hiiragi Kagami:

Basically, I sat down one day and wondered to myself how characters from modern series would look if I tried to draw them in an 80's style. This was inspired by some photoshops that other users had made that added little 90s flairs and details to modern pictures. I felt it missed some of the key elements to those earlier design structures- as the underlying construction was much different. So, I started from scratch, and saw what I could make.
I checked out a bunch of pics of eighties characters, both lineart and colored, to get a feel for the designs and looks. The real trick, however, is to figure out how to translate how that character acts now (their personality), and figure out how what types would be similar back in the 80s. After all, there's a lot that's changed between now and then. In addition, the sort of story that they'd tell back then would be much different from the ones we tell now- especially for a series like Lucky Star.
For Lucky Star, fortunately there are ready-made character archetypes to put the girls into- Tsukasa being the cutsie one, Kagami the annoyed heroine (think Akane, but toned down), Konata could fit the spunky tomboy role, and Miyuki... um... there really wasn't an archetype that Miyuki matched. I'm a bit stumped for her.
Drawn in OpenCanvas, and I used my Figma Nagato Yuki to help with the pose.
