Actually makes sense as in Greek myth, the goddess Palla and the goddess Athena ("Minerva" to the Romans) were best friends growing up during Athena's youth, but then Zeus interfered with their spear-and-shield sparring match one day as he was afraid that Palla was going to thrust her spear into his daughter Athena and kill her... but instead, he temporarily blinded Athena so that SHE accidentally stabbed Palla and killed her... Athena was sad at the death of her childhood friend, but she decided to honour her by taking on her name as her own. That is how she became known as "Pallas Athena".
