Chime for example is a hard sound (Like cky in "rocky"), while Ha-chi is a soft sound (Like chi "hatching").
The examples I used aren't 1:1, but get the example across.
tl;dr: Native english speaking people have trouble pronouncing letters like they are in the japanese language or other languages with similar pronunciation, like latin and some germanic languages. The pronunciations in those languages, though, are often straight forward and with few exceptions.
The best way to learn the proper pronunciation would be to not compare them to the english language, once you know each letters pronunciation.
