Well, aside from the fact that they both resided in Makai and share similar bullet patterns, not really.
Granted, that doesn't stop a certain section of the fandom whining about how Byakuren is supposed to be the next Shinki and then whine about how people think that Byakuren think that she's the next Shinki even though said whiners were the ones that originally said Byakuren was the Shinki replacement and are acting as if ZUN is trolling them for referencing the PC-98 games out of drunken rage.

There is actually a name for that section of the fandom-it's called fan dumb (see TV tropes for more details).
Look at Byakuren's face. She's blushing like hell. I bet Shinki's violating her. She's probably blushing because Shinki's grabbing her ass. Shinki, you perv.
ZUN's comments on TH12's spell cards imply that Byakuren swiped Shinki's spell from 5, or learned it from her teachings, one or the other. It's not impossible that they knew each other.

Are you refering to those vaguely-describing comments in the wiki? Only IN/StB/DS and the fighters' spellcards have those comments in japanese and are translated in english, those in others games are added for fun by the ones in the wiki, not by ZUN.
