He certainly needs a wake up call or words to make him more socially aware of his surrounding and the people around him but no need for a beating.
Again the maker of the series appears to be aiming for a somewhat realistic scenario in terms of how a socially withdrawn Otaku would react and go about trying to win over the target of their affection.
Suddenly having him beat up because he couldn't notice the girl that was crushing on him feels more like something we as observer's would want but not really something that would happen in the story itself.
Remember his under the impression he crushes on someone and not the other way around so anything he does would be in character for someone like him at this point.
I wonder what affect it will have on her affection for him when she realizes he was genuinely unaware Osanai had feelings for him and it wasn't him just stringing her along.

I gotta admit I got it the first time but couldn't stop laughing when I read the next message from Sig.
And I can't really say it any louder than that since it's up to people to actually get it through their thick skull that the main character isn't some omniscient entity that can observe his own life with a third party perspective much like we do.
Personally I blame most isekai stories for that type of influence on how people expect stories to go about now with the protagonist being this usual all knowing and always winning mary sue.
Problem is this isn't an isekai so having that type of expectations for it is gonna lead you nowhere.
But in hindsight people like that also tend to act as proof on how engaging the story is with how much they get into it.
They just got tone it down a bit and do a bit of calming down before leaving their comments is all.
Yes, Otaku-kun didn't intentionally hurt Osanai. He is just too dense and has too low self-esteem to consider a girl would fall in love with him.
He is also not at all proactive in his crush, probably due to said low self-esteem. He only interacts with Kinjyou when chance permits, and most times it's her talking to him and him fumbling words in response.
I don't blame him for the situation, but it does sting that his denseness made Osanai sad.
