The Loss of USS Princeton (CVL-23)
.
Description: On 24 October 1944, Princeton was attacked by a Japanese dive bomber, and the bomb released struck between the elevators and punched through the flight deck and elevator before exploding. A fire quickly spread despite the efforts of Birmingham, Reno and a number of other ships (not pictured) to render assistance. A second explosion occurred on Princeton, causing extensive damage and casualties to Birmingham; more, in fact, than on Princeton herself.
Reno was eventually ordered to scuttle Princeton.
