I think you only found that out if you could pass an intellegence check with the supercomputer at the bottom of The Glow or if you thought to return to the brotherhood before destroying the cathedral and asked the chief scribe about super mutant's weaknesses. So it's really not a hard detail to miss if you weren't playing with a walkthrough.

Throwing a hissyfit because because someone dared not to play the games that you consider godly, like Neo Nightingale did, makes all of us gamers look bad.

Hmm I don't remember that being said when I last played Fallout 3.
Still, let me explain the stuff behind it for anyone wondering. Super mutants' FEV recognizes the meiotic cell division of the sex cells, which result in haploid cells with only half the chromosomes, as 'damaged' cells and 'heals' them, thereby removing any sexual ability of Super Mutants.
But... HOW ABOUT CENTAURS WHO ARE EQUIPPED WITH TENTACLES?!!
Ether101 said: What? Was that actually stated any where?
As other people said it's stated in Fallout 1, but really, radiations can make you sterile and supermutants are people changed because of radiations, so i guess it makes sense if they are sterile. Sorry if i got it wrong, i have only played Fallout 3 (and i'm not even at half of the game yet, eheh. I suck.)
In Vault 87 there are terminals that clearly state that all the "experiments" became asexual and lost their ability to reproduce when introduced to the FEV, besides causing the body to grow huge and powerful and also causing severe brain damage.

If you've heard marcus "joke" in fallout 2. It takes a few years after being dipped for the juices to start flowing again.
