Well, they are Germans. And their American friends like superior firepower, including bombing runs and artilerries. And snipers were rare for Americans. Thus, as I haven't seen too many Soviet-German match up with this artist, bombs would be more likely to happen.

You wouldn't believe how easy it is to spot a cigarrette's light in the dark. It's like, 10,000 meters above and you can see it very clearly.
And I know that because I read German soldiers' memoirs on how Americans love artillery and bombing the shit out of them.
Now that you mention movies, Generation War did have a scene where Wilhelm smoked and then boms start falling down because the fucking bombers saw his cigarrette's light. And that scene was damned accurate to reality was the overall reception.

The pilot doesn't have to see it. An enemy soldier on the ground can see it and call an airstrike on your position. But I agree a sniper is more likely, especially if the enemy only sees one soldier.
