Well, I've been very harsh and strict to her until I've managed shove her in 2k's appearance(with grey bars, black wallpaper). And so, after XPx64 she's too gone... It's a pity that I can't just pull that stunt on WinX.
As much as I want this to happen, I seriously doubt Microsoft would make it open source, let alone releasing it as a free software.
I had a giggle on Reddit a few days ago when someone shared a screenshot with the watermark on it that elicited the response "activate your Windows" and his response was "Windows is free now, Mircosoft just wants you using their product"

You were what Vista should have been from the start and what Win 10 should never have ceased to be : a robust, stable, ergonomic and dependable OS that at least respected its users privacy and didn't excessively hog system resources. You have been my reliable servant for 10 years and therefore I really waited until the very last moment to reluctantly put you to retirement. But even so, our story is not over : you are still on my secondary PC (in dual boot with Linux) when I want to run some older games or do some basic surfing. Unlike certain software editors (alas, more and more every day), I could simply not ditch you so easily...

besides that if microsoft make it open source, hackers easily found bug in windows 7 code and since Windows 8 onward is sharing some code with they can hack that too
