Well, no man is owed fealty by that count either. Take the grandest king, grind him down into the finest powder and sift through it with the finest sieve, and then show me one atom of royalty, one molecule of nobility. It is just as imaginary as the concept of nations. Fealty given to nation-states, then, is every bit as legitimate as the fealty given to kings. In the end, royalty is just what we call the bastards whose ancestors were better at the butchering than all the other bastards and came out on top.
