Isn't there a hatch in the bottom of most tanks to discard spent shells?

The Mark IV didn't have a hatch on the bottom, although some of them did get a smaller hatch on the rear. The Mark IV did have pistol holes all over the tank including the bottom, but they would've covered these up because bullets and shrapnel can enter the tank through the holes. It would've been heavily modified to be able to compete in the matches from a practical and safety stand point.
Yeah, it's canon that they ripped off a bunch of Pravda tanks. Running a scam operation isn't too far-off from that.
