So do we have any answers yet about why they didn't just make mei as an actual Eskimo? if they were going for diversity you'd think they'd pink an underrepresented race instead of having a Chinese girl dress up like an Eskimo for some reason and use ice

Mei's default skin was never meant to be like Eskimo tho. In fact, for all the diversity, I don't think they did portrait much underrepresented race in the game, at most just as a alternative skin.

Eskimo? I thought Mei was just a Chinese scientist that was on a mission to the Antarctica that got caught up in some wacky hijinks involving being frozen or something.
What does she have to do with Eskimos besides a big puffy coat? Are you telling me that Eskimos are actually a race of sentient coats?
I'm sorry I assumed that people knew that the outfit she's wearing was created by the Inuit and is associated with Inuits.....which is why it's associated with cold and ice and such.
She's basicallly doing the equivalent of like coming out in a pan no and a sombrero. There's no rule saying no one else can do that, I was just wondering why they didn't just fully go with the theme
I know she herself is not Inuit I'm asking why that's the case why she's a Chinese girl dressing up like one for like no reason instead of just having one in the game if they want diversity.
I mean, I don't want to sound condescending but it feels kind of unfair to be downvoted because some people don't know what I'm talking about and attack based on that
So Eskimos are the ONLY ones allowed to wear big white jackets in the freaking antarctic? If that's literally you're problem then praytell how else was Blizzard supposed to dress her up as? Give her a Brown American overcoat? Hell, if Blizzard wanted to be super stereotyped, then they might as well have given her some chinese themed red Jacket I suppose.
You are looking way too into this. This is the same world with talking gorillas, A ghost girl, and sentient Robots looking to be treated as equals and literally one of them was an expy of Martin Luther King. She was just scientist that needed to dress warmly for her enviroment. Nothing more than that.
