So she blocked an attack of 140 base power she's 4x weak to? With a move that only grants 2x defense?
This is why tournaments adjust the Pokemon's levels.
Actually? Apparently it IS possible for Bisharp to do that.
...Of course, that's assuming Bisharp is trained specifically for Defense, but even then, it can block an Attack-boosting Nature All Attack boost Infernape's Close Combat.
Edit: I checked a Pokemon Calculator. Yes, I'm sure. That point about Metal Burst is taken, but it's still possible for an Iron Defense Bisharp to survive a Close Combat.
...Curiously, it can't survive a Close Combat and a Mach Punch. So yeah, in that regard plot armor is relevant.

No it can't. Unless it is massively overleveled. Bisharp has base 100 Defense and base 65 HP. While that isn't abysmal, it's in no way good. Certainly not enough to tank Close Combat like that even after Iron Defense (assuming that Infernape was of a similar level).
What's more curious: Metal Burst deals 1.5x the damage taken from the last attack. Given that Close Combat has 120 BP and is 4x effective against Bisharp, if Bisharp survived the attack Metal Burst should have knocked out Infernape since Infernape has only base 76 HP.
But it didn't. So if Infernape was leveled enough to take Metal Burst, why couldn't it knock Bisharp out with Close Combat?
Either these Pokemon have some of the most lop-sided IV and EV spreads since my Charizard in first grade, or that Bisharp is powered by 100% plot-armor.
