Lexington wrote the book on carrier warfare during those exercises. Even the stunning victory at Midway was based on those lessons. I find it fitting then, that in her death, she wrote one final chapter, one that saved potentially thousands of American lives:
"How to properly vent your hangar of avgas fumes."
