Isn't the older Kaga Jr. a container ship, while the younger one is a glorified escort carrier?
More like "secret carrier DO NOT TELL!," since they want to make a carrier but not actually call it one.
Also, strong nothing, being able to hold large boxes solely from one side without tipping backward to shift the center of weight practically takes telekinesis.

Seriously, people need to realize that Kaga is just a tanker with some landing capabilities. It's structurally impossible to be a carrier.

This depends on your definition of a carrier.
A helicopter carrier is another term for a glorified escort carrier given what the helicopters do (try to hunt subs) compared to what escort carriers historically did (hint: hunt subs).

And, of course, escort carriers aren't supposed to be anywhere near a fleet battle.

Just don't tell that to Taffy 3...
The fleet battle came to them. Not like they can outrun the Japanese with converted freighter hull types. Even the Kaiser-built ships of Taffy 3 designed as escort carriers were still freighter hulls in style.

Well, if we're bringing up escort carriers, and the Casablanca-class in particular, then I should point out that Taffy-3 wasn't off Samar to hunt subs. They were launching aircraft considered too obsolete for the fleet carriers in close ground support missions to support the landings for the Marines. The Japanese escort and light carriers spent most of their time doing the same. (Ryuujou in particular was rushing all over the Pacific to support nearly every invasion early in the war.)
Escort carriers aren't just for hunting subs, they're generally the smaller, slower, or obsolete carriers that have the smaller, obsolete planes that could use a smaller runway, and were used anywhere that air supremacy wouldn't be a problem and obsolete planes weren't a liability.
