I've been wondering about that one, as everyone had been talking about it and I didn't find it with a basic Google search. I guess the internet really has ruined me as that didn't really phase me at all. Tempered by already having already seen bestiality and the video of the guy imploding a glass jar in his butt, I suppose.

You're not alone on that. I actually saw the cover of it, earlier, looking up what Hourai Gekisen! Yoooi! was for some commentaries, but didn't read it since it had blood on the cover, and I am capable of pattern recognition.
That said, I've been jaded that way for a while, myself.
Still, I'm kind of amazed even an oblique reference to something like that would be put in a silly gag webcomic like this.
Why would you implode a glass object in your butt?
That wasn't the intention, of course. He was just filming himself inserting large things for a webcam show, one of which was a glass jar. It didn't hold together.
Good job, Kurona. You've made a f**king internet meme. And it's not just this particular one. Almost ALL Touhou fanwork from Kitsune to Budou I saw involved gore and/or mind break. Not to mention Kosuzu the evil mastermind.

On one hand I want to ask what you were doing watching a man stick stuff up his butt... on the other hand one of my favorite youtube channels is a girl in a gas mask talking about military stuff so maybe it's not that weird. (pomupomu is her username I think).
When it comes to bad stuff, I think it is actually good to be desensitized to it. Helps keep you calm and put things in perspective. Nearly every military or police boot camp has some kind of desensitization phase to prepare you for your job. I think the really sad part is that a lot of these shock doujins sometimes don't stray too far from reality. There are some really fucked up people in the world, and we only know about the people who got caught. It's a little terrifying to think of what happens to people that we don't even see, in places we usually perceive as being safe or crimes being done by people that we otherwise would have thought to be a nice person. Its irritating to sometimes see these people being defended by others who aren't aware or can't believe the evil that they committed. A common complaint among law enforcement officers is to stop a guy from harming people, then find out a year or five later he is released on a technicality or some bureaucratic "recovery" program and goes back to do the same shit over and over. Some of the really old guys even know a criminals background by memory because they encounter them so often.
Well, yesterday I was looking up numbers of homeless murdered for kicks ( defenceless and not a priority ) --- unsuccessfully, since Google's getting dumb --- some even more horrifically than others, mostly happens in very large countries, Russian Federation, Brazil, and the USA, and I can assure you that revulsion overload comes very fast.
Also, since the killers were generally most ordinary people, mainly young with families ( the kind of families who willingly bleat: 'So-and-So would never harm a soul ), out on a spree, and not from the Jim Thompson noirish American underworld of the '30s or the Stalinist period when millions died over the world, I was reaffirmed in my horror of democracy as a value.

So there's that.
Yeah. Criminals love easy targets. CA state (my area) government doesn't make it any better, you can't own a firearm here without owning property so a lot of hobos have the choice of run or die. Elderly are also a target, but at least those people are often armed/living with younger and stronger family members.
From my perspective though, criminals come from all backgrounds. Ordinary people are the average and most numerous in a population, so of course you will have more criminals from that section, but a bad guy can easily be the hoodrat in the slums or the bright and successful doctor performing lifesaving operations daily. There really isn't a set formula in the environment that creates criminal behavior, it seems entirely psychological and comes down to if the person makes that conscious decision to do bad things to good people or not. Some blame media like video games and movies, I think it is just the person. And of course, some of the worst crimes don't involve the victims death. The victim becomes a living reminder to society of what people are capable of doing for greed, jealousy, or fun. I don't know what that has to do with democracy though, but I might have misunderstood your comment.
So... If the average person is capable and willing, and the default of blaming Hitler doesn't wash any more, it indicates that the basis of Demos --- People Like Us --- is no sure foundation for virtuous governance.
Plus your country is presently choosing between a crook and an imbecile.

That's the sad truth really, all that is left for them is to choose the less evil. It doesn't matter who is in charge at all, US already has an agenda to cover. However choosing the right public face will at least prevent them from gaining even more enemies. You know, someone who during an avenge rage phase couldn't start an internment camp spree, a war against Russia/North Korea or delimiting territories as if we were still living in past century. :P
Now if you like to be sent to war on places not your business (and receive terrorist attacks in response) go on, not my problem.
There are some doujins that permanently affect how I view certain character/s and how they might interact with each other, for better or for way worse. The one in question here is a perfect example of the latter... good to know I don't seem to be alone.
What got to me is how all this started over something so small. It really does remind me of the mentality some people have when defending people close to them. Like they use any act, no matter how small, as justification for their cruelty. There's a lot of people out there who claim they would do something this extreme too, though I have a feeling they're just being Internet Tough Guys/Gals.

There is a special type of answer that does address the question but only deepens the mystery.

While a lot of people normally are just armchair warriors, unfortunately some people just have no self control and a lot of crimes that are discovered and the suspect apprehended are ones that are acts of passion. Narcotics often tend to be the little nudge in pushing people over the edge in a lot of cases, compounding whatever jealousy and resentment they already had bottled up.
Sometimes even if the conflict doesn't extend to unlawful activity some people just take a slight or misunderstanding too far and don't accept that sometimes people will do things you don't like. Its a free country, if it isn't unlawful or immoral, people need to just build a bridge and get over it.
So... If the average person is capable and willing, and the default of blaming Hitler doesn't wash any more, it indicates that the basis of Demos --- People Like Us --- is no sure foundation for virtuous governance.
Actually, I've just read that in Nigeria --- a fairly normal country --- yesterday a mentally ill man was discovered in a river claiming to have flown there on a leaf; so far so sad: there are billions of deranged anywhere in the world.
Relatives took him away just as local people had decided to set him on fire.
.
So I doubt more democracy is the answer to Nigeria's problems.

They need to be more like US, and adopt a republic. The congress is the cooling saucer for the fickle passions of the public. Pure democracies are generally little more than thinly veiled anarchy for large societies.
Some of that sounds like the grimmer aspects of the USA, le nouveau USSR de nos jours.
Anyway Nigeria is still a fairly average country by the standards of most non first world countries; which is most everywhere. Even China, Russia and Brazil have problems.
And it is a republic: all non-monarchies are republics. Dictionary Definition.
[ A political order whose head of state is not a monarch and in modern times is usually a president. ]

Mate, I am not sure what rock ye live under but Nigeria is veeeeeeeeeeeery far from your average country.
It is in the lowest 15 (nr 149) countries on the global peace index. Just one rank above North-Korea and Russia. I think your statement about it being average is greatly exaggerated.
The countries that are lower are almost all exclusively in a civil war or some sort of war or another.
If you want, I am sure I can find more indexes and observation that give you a clearer picture, but personally I do think they are pretty good at doing their research.

It was actually a fairly famous shock video at the time. Like goatse, meatspin, 2girls1cup (this one actually got called 1guy1jar after the girls), lemonparty and others. Popular to trick your friends into visiting, you know.
If you feel like getting deeper into that (or have friends you would like to see shock), internet always has a list for you: http://www.listofshocksites.com/ (SFW - but any link on that site is NOT)
