The curry that Japan uses is based on the british version of curry which was pretty much their influences during WW1 which for the saying is not a dead ringer of the Indian version of curry, that was inherited to Singapore so... Yeah Or so I remember watching Begin Japanology on Curry and based on the info that Alton Brown gave during his good eats show that talks about Curry and "what are spices" segment
Or here in PH with our curry with coconut milk. It's the same with Singapore.
