Besides, in games like Disgaia, having some odd-shaped attacks are useful, since there are always those arrangements that are specifically designed to be spread just far enough apart to avoid allowing you to hit more than two with the normal area-effect attacks. Variety gives you a chance to find something that sneaks in a couple extra targets. (Plus that attack targets 13 tiles, which ain't too shabby.)
Also, you're one to talk, Genesect... and where's Metagross, Magnezone, or other clearly more robot-like pokemon than the feasibly fantasy Golett?
