Uh, well, I think the Edge of Tomorrow wasn't that bad though. But yeah, I would hate having to watch that Dragon Ball movie they made just because every other channel is having some self-flattening bastards talking for 45~50 minutes straight. Which, happened to me 2 days in a row this week.
There's a reason anime never transitions well into live-action. Because the live-action style will never let you get away with the complete disregard for physics that is part and parcel of the anime style. I figured this out after watching that Chinese-made movie "Hero", which is basically is an original anime movie that the director decided to film in live-action instead. Really nice drama, multiple layers of intrigue that were still easy to follow, a nice focus on the psychology of each of the characters, but the action scenes really spoiled my suspension of disbelief.

Man of Steel and Batman V Superman is pretty close to doing that, not to mention other schlock action movies.

Meh, it's not like your average Hollywood action movies are adherents to physics, either
Not just physics. The emotional expression too. Normal human don't usually show expression as much as anime characters so the actors either don't show enough emotion or looks like they're overacting trying to match it.
Bollywood is on another world.. have you seen it's physics?
But gotta admit, they do quite good funny films.
Bollywood is very fun and entertaining movies. American movies used to be that way, but now it's full of teenagers and adults who still wish they were teenagers so you just get copied and "dark" crap on the premise of being sophisticated.
Hence why I love anime and manga. It hasn't been corrupted by popularity. yet.

Dun know man.. I mean anime/manga these days(well most of them anyway) is almost just a wishfulfilment with notting much of a good story thing..
I thought he meant about pleasing the darker-and-edgier crowds...
Exactly what I meant. I mean, I actually probably am one of those guys who likes somewhat darker themes, but there is a right way to do it where you are actually making the viewer think about something, than to attempt to shock them by being really controversial which is a very crude and low quality method.
Although Joker does have a point that anime has strayed to a somewhat singular formula, especially with any fantasy or romance comedy genera. However, I think solid gems do pop up every so often, and frequently enough that I am not upset with Japans entertainment industry by any means. A lot of people like 90's anime style themes and want anime to revert back to that style of production, but to be honest that kind of scripting and setup made me dislike anime (I thought it was boring) and I didn't give it a second look until Haruhi. God damn, Haruhi was amazing. That was one well thought out story that turned a simple concept into a really enjoyable series. Its a shame the creator got intimidated by the success, but I think the movie tied up the series very well.
