I wonder... Is this origami they're folding a symbol (to become healthy or something like that) or is it "just" a sign of frienship?
According to legend folding a thousand origami cranes (Senbazuru) grants one wish or good luck, and they're a traditional gift for a sick person to help their recovery. Also Zuikaku's name means "Auspicious Crane" so there's that element as well.
The thousand paper cranes myth requires that the one who wants the wish do the work. Likely they're just giving her cranes as a generic symbol of good luck and well wishing.
Apparently, there's also a deity by the name of Senbazuru. He's a small and not well known one being worshiped at the back of some hospitals back in 1950~1970, and is in charge of taking care of people's health. Those who visit him would offer some paper cranes they or their friends/family folded to thank him for their friend/relative being healthy. Could really be where this myth started.

It's just some says so. The gist of it being fold one thousand paper cranes, and you will have good fortune coming (health/a wish/long life, etc).
We need a pool for all those times where either Kaga or Zuikaku drops her usual hostility towards the other girl and shows that she really does care about her as a friend/secret lover.
