well unstapling the thing to try and get a better scan didn't work. anyone got suggestions for a good cheapish scanner?
What dpi are you scanning it? If it's too high the sensor will introduce moire artifacts because it sort of breaks down the printing pattern, but doesn't do it well enough to actually reproduce it correctly on the other side.
Less is actually better because it'll blur together more naturally.
Try 150 or 300 dpi. If you tried that already, try 75.
Also if you're scanning something with thin paper (a manga/newsprint) put a piece of black full matte card stock on the other side of the page to reduce bleed through from the other side of the paper.

thanks for the info, i'll have to check that in a bit. i don't know if it has any real settings because it's just a crappy hp printer/scanner/copier combo.
couldn't find an option for dpi for scanning, only ppi worked to a degree. nowhere near as bad on 75 dpi but resolution is pretty small. tomorrow i'll try 100/150, as the default is set to 200. 300 was worse than what's currently here. :/. i'll try again some other time when i get something where the primary purpose is to scan things.

You could also try a guide like this. I just skimmed it but it's another approach, and gimp might give you a better scanning interface too, I hate HP with a passion.

seems it's not so much a moire pattern as it is a shitty shitty scanner. using the descreen script with gimp just made it worse :|. i'll reupload this along with the other images from this artbook when i get a better scanner, if someone doesn't get to it before me. edit: i've gotten them slightly better, however i'll hold off on uploading to this site until i've gotten a dedicated scanner, which should work better. http://i.imgur.com/bAivaY5.jpg slightly better version *but smaller res* if someone wants to replace this one. i'll be redoing that one as well. again. giving it one more shot to try and get less shitty scan lines when i do the last few pages of this book
