If the VN is in a third-person view then it's possible.
Most VNs overlap with dating sims so it's an extreme rarity where the player is NOT the main character.
Even for fate stay night, the only time the player saw Shiro was for CG scenes so the reader can get a feel for the scenario. Like when Rin and Shiro were back to back. But other than that, we're supposed to be seeing everything through Shiro's eyes. Which is also why we hear his internal narration.
It's usually rare for a VN that doesn't expect it's player to put themselves in the shoes of the main character. Especially when you consider the target audience for said games.
Even in normal dating sims, you mostly only get to see the player character for an ending segment when he marries a girl. And most of the time, it's not worth showing since it's just a faceless hair over eyes protagonist.
In practically every eroge I play, I can pretty much count the number of times I even see the "Player character" on 1 hand.
Third-person Narrative and Linear Plot VN usually have a MC and not some faceless male. The kind of VN that focus on story. VN that have long series usually do this.
VN with gameplay element and VN that go all out on the number of CG also do that.
And another kind is the one that have many MC. You can see the MC from another MC view.
