Not really pointless since the armor covers most parts of her body and is also seem light enough to move around. That and as a female armor, this has more covered than most.
Even real life samurai armor only cover the most basic parts of the body, the arms, soldier, part of the chest/torso and legs.

It leaves her stomach and groin totally exposed. That's like...armor 101 there.

In terms of classic samurai armor, all she's really missing is the tasset skirt attached to the bottom of her cuirass and the helmet (but that one is forgivable). Maybe the cuirass is a little small too but that's it.

Her cuirass isn't a cuirass, it's an armored bra that leaves her abdomen totally exposed. No samurai armor design I am aware of does that. In a style of combat involving slicing weapons and lots of archers running around, leaving that region open is an invitation to a slow and painful death.
She's also missing the plates which guard the thighs and groin.

There were hardly any samurai armor made for women at the time either, or rather not enough that mattered. It's anime female armor. It's not suppose to confine to laws of logic or reality.
Hell, when was the last time huge amount of spikes and a bunch of other cool yet bullshit armor decoration in the male armors in video games serve any other purpose other than to look cool?
