We are all loving Shitty Admiral embarassing Akebono to major damage point, but this got me wondering: Is Akebono actually an angel or something? She does all this good stuff and avoids receiving gratitude and all, I wanna hug her so much (more) right now.

Not really. People can avoid receiving gratitude for less than altruistic reason. Want to avoid being seen as weak or exploitable (someone to push all the bothersome jobs to) Too much praise can also sound cynical, and poisonous with opposite meaning, implying "questionable motives" It draws too much unwanted attention and could make everyone expect you to always be nice (choice became responsibility)

I think it's normal to things for others and avoid getting any kind of gratitude. Some would say it's a bother, a drag with all that gratitude, some would say they did it without thinking, others with it's the normal thing to do, etc. I myself don't mind lending a helping hand and also avoid what happens afterward because it's a real bother listening to all that about gratitude, and well, it's embarrassing, kind of. I guess that's why Akebono hides the face she did all that.

I said this over in the one about Takao raising Akebono, as well...
Akebono's like some orphaned kid or someone who's been in foster care up until she was handed over to Takao. She doesn't know how to react to anything but teasing or abuse, so when people are friendly or care for her she freaks out, and she doesn't know how to be friendly, herself.
Hence, she always talks shit, and constantly fights with the people who care about her, (like Takao or Ushio,) but still cares for them, herself.
... Or in other words, she just needs a lot of hugs.
For those wondering, I have finished the script for the missing pages of Volume 2. It's in fact only 3 pages extra after post #1739648 as the rest are all available here on Danbooru
They will be posted up tomorrow as some of the pages require cleaning and recoloring (and I am busy with life so...).
Then Volume 3 involving Akebono training Asashio will be translated. There are 11 pages which come after post #1790539.

actually if you know about the history of the real life Akebono. she's considered as a bad luck ship, while her sister Ushio considered as a good luck ship. at some point(if i'm not mistaken), she's changing place for her sister sake, and there was happen some incident, the higher-ups not blaming her sister for the incident, rather they blamed Akebono for the incident. Akebono receive it either way, and didn't even blamed her sister at all, and all of the major incident in WW2 that related to her "bad-luck", she was the one who got all of the responbility and fault, eventhough she's didn't doing anything wrong. this history could be the reason of why the Akebono in KanColle have a rude personality, not because she's like it, but she's holding all of those blaming just to protect her sisters and pretending to be tough-look in front of them as nothing happened.
