Thinking about it, can a NEXT use Overed Weapons without getting all those warning messages and overheating issues?
Is 'But can it use Overed Weapons' the 'Can it run Crysis' of the Armored Core universe?
I'm not much of an AC-holic, but I'm sure a NEXT will get different threshold breaches. Since a NEXT uses Kojima Particles, naturally the "safest" route is to base Ultimate Weapons around its usage. I remember the angel wing shaped Back weapons from Noblesse Oblige draining KP per shot (correct me if I'm wrong), so perhaps an UW would do the same, but it will be just as dangerous. As for those thresholds, an UW would either overheat the NEXT via radiation from the massive amounts of KP used at one time.

Honestly, given that V and VD are in the far future of AC4, and given the size difference between a NEXT and an AC, I think that Overed Weapons are just NEXT scale wepons that somebody tried to fit on an AC. The Giga Cannon, for instance, is probably a NEXT sized laser rifle (probably one of the stronger ones) with extra bits added or shuffled around so it can actually fire.

No. No matter how high-spec you are, you ALWAYS get the warnings, because they're "Incompatible Equipment" with the NEXT's OS. The Generator's output, and the Radiator's effectiveness, simply determine how fast you charge the attack (Best-spec can only get 1-2 shots with Legion Pulse, THAT SLOW a charge), and how much damage you take from overheating.

Noblesse' Triple Laser Cannons don't drain the user's PA gauge, just the EN bar, like all laser & plasma weapons. UW's just redline the generator to provide the juice to power them, cranking out a massive amount of heat as a result.

I never looked at it like that, but I don't think the scale fits. 5/VD's NEXT's are 5m tall, compared to the 10m of all the previous titles. The UW's seem to be much larger than the regular weapons, simply because they're the "Ultimate Weapon" idea; Big, mean, lots of damage. All their drawbacks (Heat, damages self, once-per-battle-only, loss of left arm entirely with the Grind Blade, etc) are to balance the fact that they're basically OHK's on you.
