It's not impossible just pointless since the Genkidama or Spirit Bomb does not derive energy from the wielder at all but the universe around him by a set radius that uses minor effort from the wielder. It would be more effective if Goku did something else since he has the energy to go ssj3
Spirit Bomb can't be used in Super Saiyan mode due to the Spirit Bomb requiring a pure heart and the Super Saiyan state filling it with hate or some such. At least that's my understanding of it.

The whole "Goku still being pure of heart" thing kinda' bugs me. Through out the show it's established that he's pretty battle hungry consequences be damned and not above bloodlust vengeance beatdowns as well.

Remember, "pure" does not mean "good." It just means that Goku is unburdened by any sort of ulterior motives or influences. He does what he wants to do, and means it. And if it means beating up some poor shmuck who killed one of his friends, then so be it.
Goku going Super Saiyan 3 to me just means that he's ready to give that Spirit Bomb one hell of a push. Goku as just a Super Saiyan with full strength overwhelmed Buu after all.

Hell not even just that. Piccolo: Goku! He's just a 10 year old boy! He doesn't have a thirst for battle like you do!
Never would have thought Piccolo would try to play conscience for Goku.
