According to some versions of the story, Mordred is the product of incest (Arthur didn't know at the time) and the child of Morgausse, who is also Gawain's mother. The Fall of Camelot was, according to these versions, divine punishment to Arthur for doing his sister, even though he didn't know it at the time.
