Granted, it's a bit hard to see, but after a good hard look at the relative part dimensions I'm more inclined to think it's a cello... Anyone corroborate?
I have seen violins without chin rests; but other than that, it's difficult to tell without seeing if it has a tailspike, as violins and violincellos have virtually identical relative dimensions. (Even the finetuners on the tailpiece have the same relative size) However, considering the fact that the vast majority of modern violins have chin rests, I think it would be safe to tag this one as a cello.
