"Lava is hotter than fire." Too bad she don't have a sword.
That is quite possibly the greatest IDIOTIC ASS PULL ever performed by Oda. He simply needed Ace to die and elected Akainu to do so, logic be damned. Fire can reach temperatures much higher than lava...(as an example, lava upper limit is around 1300 C°, Oxyacetylene fire is over 4000 C°). Even completely cutting off the oxygen wouldn't work: 1) Phosphorus fire keep burning even while UNDERWATER; 2) Fire dies out if oxygen is cut off from the reacting fuel. Ace IS fire, there is no physical fuel at all so oxygen is optional.
Oda saved himself with the Haki concept... that would have allowed Akainu to hit Ace, but that line is still utter garbage!

well, lava has both mass and heat while fire lack mass....maybe??

It's a generalization. In general, lava is far hotter than fire. Sure, lava /can/ reach up to insane degrees, but I don't think what Ace's body was burning was Oxyacetylene. So thusly, his line has truth. In short, it's not an 「Absolute Statement」, it's a 「generalization」. 「Ace's fire」was less 「Hot」than 「Akainu's Magma」, and thus 「was vulnerable」. Also, you forgot that Devil Fruits have a hand in this.
