Thematically, he really kind of does. They both move to Inaba from the city and end up under Doujima's hard-love tutelage shortly before attracting Izanami's attention, but Yuu makes friends and confronts the truth while Adachi sinks into a lonely delusion and forces his own reality onto the world.
That's why the Protagonist never has to confront his Shadow outright. The whole GAME consists of him confronting his "shadow." Or was Magatsu Izanagi not a big enough hint for you?

In that case, wow, did the anime miss the point or WHAT, because it had an honest-to-goodness Shadow Yu in episode 26.
