Krispy Kreme > Dunkin Donuts.
Moonspeaker
And today's poll is:
Murein
Sadly, even as a New England native, I have to admit that Krispie Kreme doughnuts do edge out Dunk's donuts (which is why I was sad when they pulled out of the Boston area after being here for only a short while). That being said, everything ELSE at a DD's is better; I can't imagine who thought a glaze flavored shake was a good idea at KK.
*commence three-page doughnut shop discourse*
ANYWAY, this seems like as good a time as any for videos http://youtu.be/Ej4VvEqjDc0, http://youtu.be/Jbi5zTJX6x0, http://youtu.be/koSjH6X9Awk, and http://youtu.be/6WE_Kz_Okfw since I assume the next strip is going to be about the aquarium.

The only thing that could be the savings grace of Dunkin Donuts is.. is.. *ahem* Yes, indeed Krispy Kreme is better.
AdventZero
Yeah, we have people lining up for Krispy Kreme in my country. Some of them even going home empty-handed.
Though that brings up one saving grace for Dunkin' Donuts... No waiting lines. No heart-breaks.
(There's also Mr. Donut, but it's not that high-profile over here.)
Wolftengu
The coffee. I don't know what they put in their coffee but it's seriously addicting.
mintycake
Oh gosh that coffee...
But yes, I think Krispy Kreme has the better plain vanilla trademarked glazed dounts, but everything else Dunkin Donuts comes out on top.
RiderFan
Krispy Kremes have become very rare where I live. I remember when I was much younger that on occasion after church on Sundays we would go to Krispy Kreme and watch the doughnuts being made "hot & now" rolling along the conveyor line, their sweet smell filling the store. Even better when they cooled down enough to actually eat, melting in your mouth.
Pickie
Dunkies are really everywhere in Massachusetts. I pass by at least 12 on the way to work. As for which donut is the best, I hate both krispy kreme and dunkin donuts. There are several family owned donut shops all over Boston and they beat the chain donut shop any day of the f-ing week.
As for the Green Line, they're not subways, they are light rails, so yes, they are technically street cars but underground (half the time)
Skyknight
It's not that much of a surprise that Dunkin' Donuts proliferates throughout Boston, when you consider it was FOUNDED in bordering Quincy.
Kryptik
The thing with DD's donuts is that they taste manufactured. Krispy Kreme's, especially if you're lucky enough to find the stand alone shops with the visible glazing belt, are sooooo much better. Sadly, rarer too.
And wow, Doughnut Plant. I was surprised to see that on the list until I found out there's actually a Doughnut Plant Japan. And Doughnut Plant Korea too.
Konata Sandwich
Dunkin' Donuts isn't bad. However I prefer Krispy Kreme out right.
Murein
The one that was in the Pru used to have this, and they clearly knew what they were doing; they stuck that sucker RIGHT in front of the giant glass pane windows to the shop.
Robert3186
Dem's fightin' words son.
Though if I suppose you want a doughy, overly sweet, undercooked sugar bomb then they are indeed "better"
Suzuran Majere
We used to have Krispy Kreme and then they went out of business. They tried to play games with their accounting and got busted, or so I heard.

Daylight Donuts > Krispy Kreme
Never liked Krispy's donuts. Walking into my hometown's Daylight Donuts in the morning when all the older folk were there for their morning coffee smelled heavenly.
23rd Break
Any hometown donut shoppe > Krispy Kreme
Okay, no argument about that, because, well, their donuts are relatively cheaper than it is, plus it's nice and warm too...
I can't explain it, but I just don't like donuts served in a conveyer belt.
Deathfish64
Dunkin' has a firm hold on Jersey as well. You pretty much can't drive through any given town for 20 minutes and not see one.
Kilgamayan
In my experiences with both, both donuts tasted good, but Dunk's were routinely slightly larger and slightly cheaper, so I almost always went with them.
Recent investigation has unearthed Hannaford (grocery store) as quality donut competition, however.
Kink-Link5
Am I the only person who actually puts their doughnut into the coffee? I seriously feel like no one does what the name of the chain comes from.
iliekmudkips
It depends. I tried it once with a Boston Cream and it was kinda disgusting.
Here in New York? Chances are, If you turn a corner you'll see a Dunkin Doughnuts around the next.
Tetsamaru
Krispy Kreme Donuts > ALL
Dem the truth!
Kilgamayan
Actually, in thinking about this further, I have to throw the Market Basket hat into the donut ring. They're another New-England-local grocery store, and their donuts are comparable to Hannaford's in size and price. Hannaford's individually are better, but if you're watching carefully, you can get a good set of 6 donuts for about $2.30 on the day-old bakery rack.
Murein
Oh you.
Anyway, to make this a worthwhile post, I actually agree about the Market Basket donuts, but even more so, they used to have apple fritters back when I lived near one. Those were awesome, and apparently as I learn, hard to find.
MMaestro
What no Donuts Delight?
Reddyne
I like donuts. Arguing over such things is madness.
BadRoad
That's why there's an iOS app that indicates when the nearest Krispy Kreme has (or will have) a fresh batch. If I had an iPhone, I'd get it.
Blossop
It's even better when the local donut shop gets bigger; witness Voodoo Doughnut.
JohnAnon
Dunkin' Donuts seems to be a East Coast thing. You won't find any in California. Maybe they're all in Seattle?
Kryptik
In lieu of being able to go to a Krispy Kreme, I end up going to a local shop called the Donut Pub instead, since it's the closest to KK taste that I've found. I've yet to go to the actual Doughnut Plant, only a sister store, and I came in late enough that I got the last one they had which was kinda...stale tasting.
dkellis
I, er... don't actually like doughnuts.
I just noticed in those videos that while Mizuki-san is bundled up in a coat and such, as well as the majority of passers-by, two of the guys are wearing just short-sleeved shirts. What kind of weather is there (asks the person from a tropical country)?
MJP
I like my women the same way I like my coffee: tall, dark, not to sweet, and picked up at Dunkin' Donuts.
[spoiler]Krispy Kreme > Deez Nuts[/spoiler
Genichiro
Dunkin' is better than KK, any day. KK's are way too sweet, and then there's the coffee. Dunkin' coffee and Dunkin' donuts? Now that's the breakfast of champions.
Murein
The weather in New England is notoriously fickle; there's a saying attributed to Mark Twain (albeit it's somewhat of a paraphrasing) that goes "if you don't like the weather in New England, wait a minute." Really though, Boston has the whole gamut of weather from cold and snowy to hot and humid. For this particular day, it was a touch windy and chilly, so it's probably a good thing Mizuki-san had a heavy coat.
truckingman
"ALL THE ABOVE."
IchiMashiPotatos
I've eaten at the first Krispy Kreme. I grew up on Dunkin Donuts. But I live in Japan now... and I gotta say... Mister Donut is superior.
It's about quality, not size or sugar content.
StriderTuna
Honestly there's not many Krispy Cream stores if any where I live and back in chicago I did find one but it wound up shutting down.
Back in my Chicago days, on my way home sometiems I stop by the dunkin donuts at the ford city CTA station and get myself some to eat on the way home.
These days I use the store I work at's donuts to fill my needs as the nearest dunkin donuts is annoyingly out of the way.
Nietz
You Americans sure take your donuts seriously.
I know I've never seen a Dunkin' Donuts in Japan, and wikipedia tells me the only one is inside an American airbase in Okinawa. Mister Donut, however, is pretty popular here.
The only KK I've seem is the one in Shinjuku which always, always has a huge line outside. (Though people who have tasted it said it's nothing so special.)
I'm not particularly a fan of the sugary pastry in question though, so this is largely an academic question for me. [/monocle]
RiderFan
Dunkin' Donuts has been losing their grip on the coffee lovers since McDonald's started serving coffee (I'm not a coffee drinker, but even I liked the coffee from McDonald's).
Kryptik
Yeah, Mister Donut's all but gone here as they originally merged with DD before. The only reason it lives on is because license to the name was given for the Japanese Market way back when, which still persists.
BakaHoushi
Lucky bastards. I'm hypoglycemic, so I can't even eat donuts.
I will say, however, that DD has great decaf coffee.
Shadowrumia
Shipley has better donuts than all of them.
Neo X
Sad to say that this is why americans are overweight...
FeliciaXedine
... Really? On the KK donuts, it's odd, as the KK in my town was the only one in the area, and they went out of business in two years. We have 4 different DD's though, and they're still going strong...
That being said, I found that eating more than a few KK doughnuts at a time was... very nasty.
RaisingK
From Hell's heart I stab at thee.
Jin Hikari
Ah, but all of you are forgetting about Tim Horton's doughnuts, those things are the friggin' best~
commode7x
Wait, if you're hypoglycemic, wouldn't eating donuts help your condition?
