-deep sigh-
Don't you Meiling fans get a little too defensive about this? There's quite a few "Meiling the brawler badass" works out there, but face it, to most people, she's the lovable goofball who gets slapstick comedy as the staple of her diet.

Yes, quite a FEW. And even when a work with Meiling looks like it'll be serious, nope. There has to be some moment where she's taking the abuse. I wouldn't mind it so much if this happened to her canon; at least there would be a reason for this treatment, but no. It's like the fandom took her name out of a hat and decided to make her the butt monkey. That's what annoys me. Not just with Hong but with other characters too (for example, Kaguya).
It just seems to random. Plus it feels like an overused joke. Abusing this one character over and over isn't really funny anymore.
I like how people are complaining about what is happening to the character they adore, and yet do nothing to try and fix the image. If you hate something go out and do something about it.

Blame japan's rigidness and possibly not reading the canon more, as most of these memes were born long ago before I'd imagine information was that freely available, even in japan.
But I'm disapointed in this artist going this route as in his Gensokyo tag series, Meiling isn't a joke.
Also Colonel Aki is far worse about running the whole "useless buttmonkey meiling" thing into the ground so deep it comes out in the other side of the world. And guess what? There's still some people that like it.

How do you suppose American fans go about influencing japanese artists not to do that? The best we can do is get American artists and writers to knock it off (in non shitty parts of the internet, this is going pretty well)
I fear though that these old terrible memes are self perpetuating at this point.
You guys do yourselves no favors when you feel a need to complain over and over again every time she gets used as a joke character. It gets just as old as the stupid meme itself and really doesn't buy you any sympathy.
don't worry, we always go full circle, each side of this argument will be in the wrong for a period of time then switch with the other
Thunder Arrow "Gagouji's Cyclone" Ugh!What...?!
-TojikoIt was a direct hit... and yet she... didn't fall...?!It's as if she possesses a sturdy body like a rock...!Individual Thoughts ①OuchSeems like Meiling was hit at where she's accustomed to.Yeowowow... when I got hit by an arrow right here...It's like I'm in "The person heard a line that pierced through their heart!'" status...!
