Anyone else notice that the motorcycle's headlight is broken? I get the feeling this presages that things will begin falling apart (perhaps literally) even before Meiling can begin to become Terror of the Causeways Mk. III (Mk. II was at Gensokyoland).

If it was going to overflow, it would've overflowed to 0, not -256.
Unless Colonel Aki was using a non-primitive data type that was 2 octets long. But we're going to assume he's doing the sensible thing and is using an unsigned int. Or something even larger.

A nine-bit signed data type would overflow from 255 to -256, but of course raises the question of why anyone would ever use such a type.

Nine bits, two octets... it's only seven bits' difference.
